Prosperity™. And these other things…

The Harper™ Government appears to have learned a few tricks from The Patriot Act™ among other U.S. Legislations with Bill C-38. What they have learned is quite simply this: if you group many things together under a pretty name and introduce this bill to a vote while vacation is approaching it will quite likely be passed into law.

So what is the 'Jobs, Growth and Long-term Prosperity Act'? To say the least, it's large… It proposes changes to all of these laws:

It has taken me several hours just to format this list into a readable and indexed numbered list and I have not even read the damned thing yet. But it is noteworthy that Privacy, Labour Code. Pension, Banking, Border Laws, Tax Codes, are all mentioned several times... I wonder if there is anything that will create jobs or stimulate the economy in here? Because thus far I only see bureaucrats losing salary and jobs... The CBC has some commentary on the bill here. Maybe I will actually be able to read all of this before Parliament votes on it. Maybe M.P.s will be able to read it all before May 14th, but I doubt it, as the government has already imposed limited debates on the issues put forward by this bill.

That is how we are going to get screwed, nobody will have enough time to read it all before it is put to a vote and will have to vote on all of these proposals in a single yea or nay vote... And because
1. This Act may be cited as the Jobs, Growth and Long-term Prosperity Act.
sounds pretty good, the yeas will likely win. Because who wants to be on the public record as the enemy of prosperity?
