Projet Montreal decries pricey garbage bins

Montreal's new garbage receptacles for the Quartier des Spectacles entertainment district are irking some city politicians concerned about the cost and the lack of features for the steep price.
Ross acknowledged that the 147 bins will not be compatible with a multimillion-dollar underground automated trash system already built under the area. He said it would take "a lot of work" and money to connect them, and the city had to strike a balance between cost and having enough trash receptacles in the district.
The what? Secret underground automated trash collection system? Wait, really? There's some underground trash collection system that cost millions of dollars, but we will use these expensive ($2400 x 147 = $352,800) bins further wasting taxpayer money on what looks to be an ordinary plastic garbage bin with a lid...

Scary does not even begin to describe my thoughts on this

Controlling the Kuratas bot is relatively straightforward - movement can be achieved via a smartphone or by using controls within the one-man cockpit. Ingeniously (or weirdly) the guns are activated when the pilot smiles.

None of the Above: Why aren't Quebec Anglos voting?

CBC Quebec takes an in-depth look at why so many anglophones are staying away on election day.
A simple question, and I believe it has simple answers as well. Anglos in Quebec only have a single choice available, and have only had a single choice available for decades. Since we now understand that the only choice is corrupt and working against us just as much as the other fake choices openly state that they would also work against us should they get the chance, then there is really no choice.

Economists: wolves in sheeps clothing

Canada lost 30,400 jobs in July (CBC News)
Economists were expecting a slight gain of 6,000 jobs and for the jobless rate to hold steady

The Americans are invading

6 U.S. retailers set to invade Canada's malls (CBC News)

While the story itself is pretty good at pointing out how many stores are having a tough go of it, I am absolutely delighted by the comments to this story:

Boycott Rogers communications NOW

”Rogers will argue in front of the court that the requirement that companies run performance tests before making claims about performance in its advertising violates its Charter rights to free expression, reported Sarah Schmidt at Postmedia.
Michael Janigan, executive director and general counsel at the Public Interest Advocacy Centre, told Postmedia that “the case effectively advances the proposition that companies that advertise shouldn’t be forced to actually have the facts and evidence on hand before they make a claim and it somehow devalues public discourse if they are forced to do so. With all due respect to that position, it sounds a bit like a Madison Avenue wet dream.”
So even Canadian corporations have started to act as if they are entitled to the same rights and privileges as people. Last time I checked, lying was considered wrong and is certainly grounds for a breach of contract and breach of trust.

Kill it before it spreads.

Richer and poorer than before

English Montrealers richer and poorer than before:
A new study has found the financial gap between rich and poor English-speaking Montrealers has grown in the last 15 years. (credit: CBC News)
Well, at least somebody's paying attention to reality out there... I don't think they are planning to fix it since studies don't usually bleed into the real world very often.

Reason to quit Facebook # 1

Is not joining Facebook a sign you're a psychopath? Some employers and psychologists say staying away from social media is 'suspicious'

It's true, I have not disabled or deleted my Facebook account yet and I am a bit hypocritical for that I suppose... I also have not been feeding much into 'the system' in the past couple of years either, so maybe I am only mildly psychotic. Not that the government (or google) does not know where I am just in case the men with the straight jackets needed to subdue me... I even make sure to check in with the bank every couple of weeks so as not to appear dead.

I hear paying with cash is another antisocial and psychopathic kind of behaviour, so I might still fit the bill.

Psychosematic-addict-insane

I was prescribed Paxil when I was going through a divorce. I decided that a steady intake of beer was probably a healthier choice.
